Elk City High School senior Randy “R.J.” Vidaurri said his father is his biggest inspiration, driving him to try hard in everything and become the best person he can be.
Vidaurri, an offensive guard for the varsity football team, said the most difficult part of his position is pulling quickly to get to his assigned defender. He recalled one of the craziest things he has seen on the field: a wide receiver making a one-handed catch while covered by two defenders.
Off the field, Vidaurri said his favorite school subject is forensics and his favorite teacher is Coach Coop. He said he listens to music before games to lock in mentally and prepare for competition.
What Vidaurri enjoys most about being a member of the team is “the brotherhood” and how his teammates push each other to be better. His favorite game memory is running out of the Elk inflatable tunnel before a game, a moment he said captures the energy and unity of the team.
In his free time, Vidaurri said he enjoys hanging out with friends.
Vidaurri said athletics has taught him a lesson he plans to carry into adulthood: “You have to work hard to accomplish things you want in life.”
