Elk City High School senior Wyatt Taliaferro is embracing his final year of football with a strong sense of leadership, discipline and appreciation for the journey that brought him here.

Taliaferro, the team’s starting quarterback, said his biggest motivation comes from home.

“I’d say my parents inspire me,” he said. “They push me every day to be the best man I can be on and off the field.”

As a senior, Taliaferro has developed a deeper understanding of both the game and his role. Playing quarterback requires more than just physical ability.

“I am the quarterback, and I would say the hardest part about it is having to know what everyone is doing on every play,” he said.

Despite the pressure, he has found success and memorable moments along the way. One of his favorites came during his first win as a starting quarterback against Cache.

“That was a big moment for me,” he said.

While some athletes recall chaotic moments on the field, Taliaferro keeps things grounded.

“I haven’t really seen too many crazy things on the football field,” he said.

Instead, what stands out most to him are the relationships he has built.

“All the memories and friendships I have built throughout my high school career,” he said. “The brotherhood we have built.”

Off the field, Taliaferro enjoys spending time outdoors.

“I enjoy hunting and going out to the lake with family and friends,” he said.

In the classroom, his favorite subject has been forensic science with Coach Cooper, showing his interest in learning beyond athletics.

Through football, Taliaferro has gained lessons that extend far beyond the game.

“I’d say definitely work ethic and to always try and be the best I can,” he said.

His pregame routine reflects his focus and values.

“For pregame, I listen to music and read a Bible verse, then pray,” he said.

As he enters his final season, Taliaferro remains focused on leading his team and making the most of every moment.
