OUTLOOK

With a dominant season in the rearview mirror and plenty of experienced players returning, the Elk City Elkettes are set to be a serious contender in Class 4A again in 2025. “We are returning a lot of key starters from last year’s state tournament team,” said head coach Kaleb Murray. “This team is ready to build on the success of what we had last year and are hoping to win a district title and make it back to state.”

Leading the way in the circle and at the plate is senior ace Aubrie Pogue. “Aubrie is a senior pitcher who has a big arm and has collected over 700 strikeouts for us in the circle,” said Murray. “She is an above .350 career hitter who has consistently hit in the middle of our lineup. She has the ability to beat anyone she plays against.”

Helping control the game from behind the plate is senior catcher Lou Wyatt, a tough and reliable presence. “Lou has caught every meaningful inning for us in her career,” said Murray. “She’s battled a torn hip and shoulder and never once came out of a game. She’s finally healthy going into the year, and I am looking forward to what this season holds for her.”

At the top of the lineup is junior outfielder Blakely Ball. “Blakely has been a staple in our outfield since her freshman year,” said Murray. “She’s a left-handed bat with a very good eye for the zone. With her great speed, she’s a tough out for any team. I look forward to her producing for us at the top of the order again this year.”

The defense is anchored by a mix of senior leadership and rising talent. Junior center fielder Brenyn Ball returns after a flawless 2024 season in the outfield. “Brenyn was perfect on every play she made last year,” said Murray. “She has no fear and is a huge asset in center. She brings a lot of energy and laughter to our team.”

Sophomore Josie McConnell is another young player with a bright future. “We’re looking forward to putting Josie at shortstop,” Murray said. “She has great IQ, a great arm, and is an intense competitor. She puts in extra work every day.”

With their core intact and new talent stepping in, Elk City is primed for another run.
