Elk City senior Jackson Edwards has built his high school career on discipline, resilience and a deep appreciation for the people who shaped him.

Edwards, a varsity athlete for the Elks, credits his parents as his biggest influence. “They didn’t have much when they were younger, but every day they worked hard to survive,” he said. “They raised me as a good man.” Watching their consistency and attitude left a lasting impression. “I’ve watched them get up for the next day in a good mood, ready for the challenges to come, and that inspired me to do my best.”

On the field, Edwards has experienced both intense and memorable moments. One of the most unforgettable came during a chaotic play. “My friend was running to tackle a lineman that picked up a fumble,” Edwards said. “He got hit so hard you could see a giant chunk of his helmet fly at least eight feet in the air.”

Despite the physical nature of football, Edwards values the technical side of his position. “The most difficult thing is keeping your technique down, keeping the repetition the whole game and making sure each push or pull is perfect,” he said.

Edwards said head coach Maynard has played a major role in shaping the team’s mindset. “He has taught us discipline and work ethic — how to get up every morning for weights and put in the same amount of effort or more each day,” he said.

Beyond athletics, Edwards enjoys science courses, particularly biology and chemistry, and credits teacher Mrs. Brimage as a key influence in the classroom.

He also appreciates the support from his hometown. “I love the community of Elk City. They support us in so many ways, from helping us travel to feeding us after games,” he said.

Whether preparing for kickoff by listening to music or reflecting on a perfect block that led to a touchdown, Edwards embraces every moment of his senior season representing both his team and his town with pride.
