At Elk City High School, sophomore Norma Cupp has quickly established herself as a versatile and dedicated member of the cheer program. Serving as both a flyer and base for her school team, and taking on the role of backspot in competitive cheer outside of school, Cupp’s adaptability and passion make her a key part of every squad she represents.

For Cupp, motivation comes from the strong support system she has around her. “Knowing that I have people who will be there for me when I need them motivates me,” she explained. That encouragement fuels her commitment, whether she’s practicing stunts, cheering on the sidelines, or competing at the highest level.

One of her biggest influences is Katie Spits, an athlete she admires for her tumbling skills. “Her tumbling is so good, I would like to be like that one day,” Cupp shared. She also credits Mrs. Simon, one of her teachers, for being such a positive presence in her life. “She was so nice and caring,” Cupp said.

Among her career highlights, Cupp is most proud of being able to fill multiple roles in cheer. “Being able to be a flyer, backspot, and base” stands out as a defining moment for her, showing her versatility and commitment to her team’s success. She enjoys the camaraderie of practices, explaining, “I enjoy working with all of my teammates in practice. We all make each other better.”

Outside of cheer, Cupp is equally busy with band and choir, showcasing her dedication not only as an athlete but also as a well-rounded student. Balancing so many commitments takes focus, and she believes it comes down to “hard work and dedication.”

Representing Elk City is something Cupp doesn’t take lightly. Wearing her school’s colors fills her with pride. “It means being full of joy and pride for our town,” she said.

As a sophomore, Cupp still has plenty of time to grow and make her mark on Elk City cheer, but she already represents her school with energy, dedication, and heart, qualities that promise a bright future ahead.
