Many people play golf as a form of recreation. But Jayden Manning plays golf for Elk City High School and she says that being a successful golfer is not just about the physical work that she has to put in.
“Golf is a sport that is more mental than it is physical,” she said. “With the right mentality you can accomplish anything. I have worked my butt off the past four years to be where I am now. I go out to the course as much as I can. I’ve gone to golf camps, and had lessons from many different people to improve my swing. But the most important lesson I’ve learned in golf when it comes to success is keeping a positive attitude. Nothing is going to change with a negative attitude. When I stay positive I am able to see things more clearly and have a better perspective of what my next shot could look like. I stay positive by praying, surrendering, and being humbled.”

Jayden is a senior at Elk City High School. Along with playing golf, she is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, Senior Class Committee, and choir.

Throughout her life, there have been a number of people that have made an impact on Jayden’s life. But she says that there are a couple of people that have been the most influential.

“My parents have done everything in their power to make sure that I live a life full of support, love, and discipline,” she said. “Every one of those things are crucial when growing up and I am forever thankful to say that Jay and Jennifer Manning are my parents anytime someone asks. A teacher that has had an impact on me is Mrs. Stover, because she is one of the realest teachers I’ve ever had. She has taught me a lot of basic principles of adult life after high school and has given her time to offer me advice when I was struggling.”
