For Edgar Armendariz, wrestling has shaped more than his athletic career—it has built his character, strengthened his discipline, and fueled his drive to succeed.

The Elk City High School senior finished his final season by qualifying for the state tournament, marking a proud milestone in his wrestling journey.

Armendariz started wrestling in seventh grade, inspired by his older brother.

“He showed me what you could achieve in wrestling, and it motivated me,” Armendariz said. “I wanted to be better than him.”

Over the years, he developed not only his skills but also a strong mental approach to the sport. “It’s about staying committed,” he said. “If you can’t stick with something, you won’t get very far.”

This dedication paid off his senior year. After struggling during his freshman and sophomore seasons, Armendariz hit his stride as a junior, setting the foundation for his successful final season.

He finished his senior year qualifying for the state tournament, where he competed against some of the top wrestlers in Oklahoma.

“The state is a different level,” Armendariz said. “Everyone there is really good, but it was a great experience.”

Armendariz wrestled in the 138-pound weight class and kept his routine simple yet consistent.

His practices included daily after-school workouts, drills, and conditioning.

Maintaining his weight and focus was part of his daily commitment, something he credits to his strong mindset.

He also draws inspiration from his parents and his faith. “My parents always pushed me to be great, and Jesus has always been there through my lows,” he said.

Outside of wrestling, Armendariz enjoys playing soccer, a sport he participated in during his freshman and junior years.

He plans to either pursue work alongside his father in the pipeline industry or consider college after graduation.

Through hard work and determination, Edgar Armendariz leaves behind a personal legacy defined by resilience, growth, and leadership at Elk City High School.
