While work is important to becoming a successful athlete, there can be times when the drive is not there and they do not feel like putting in the time. That is where motivation comes in. Edgar Armendariz says he wants to be successful and he knows what it takes to keep himself focused on the end goal.

“Success in wrestling comes down to consistency and discipline,” he said. “Mentality and sacrifice play a major role. I’m motivated by the desire to improve everyday, and to make my coaches proud. I want to show that hard work really does pay off.”

Edgar is in his senior year at Elk City High School. He says that competing in the Elk City uniform is not something that he takes lightly.

“Representing my school is a huge honor,” he said. “It means that I’m not just wrestling for myself, but for everyone who supports me, and I always give my best to make them proud.”

Along with all the time and effort that he has invested, Armendariz says that there are some people that have also played a big part in him becoming the athlete and the person that he is today.
“My biggest role models are my parents,” he stated. “They’ve always supported me and taught me the value of persistence and hard work. I also look up the lord and savior, he shows me to never give up even through tough times. Also, my teacher and coach, Mr. Murray has had a big impact on me. He’s always believed in me and helped me grow as a person. He has taught me to stay focused and motivated, even through my ups and downs.”

For Edgar, being a successful athlete is important, but he also knows that he has to do his best in the classroom in order to compete.

“Time management is key to balancing everything,” Edgar said. “I prioritize my tasks to make sure I stay on top of my schoolwork, while also giving my best effort in sports and other activities.”
