To simply play one sport requires a great deal of determination and skill. For Elk City High School freshman Luke Thomas, being a multisport athlete, comes naturally. Having been involved with cross country since sixth grade, and baseball since the first grade, Luke enjoys sports.

Many memories are made while involved in sports. For Luke, there are two memories, each from a different sport that he considers his most memorable moments thus far. Luke recalls, “My first favorite memory was placing 11th in the Oklahoma All-Star Junior Cross Country Meet. A favorite memory of baseball was winning State when I was only 11 years old.” 

When asked what it has taken to get where he is now, Luke stated, “It has taken lots of hard work and time, but most of all, it has taken mental strength.”

Most high school athletes normally have a teacher or coach that they look up to. Luke explained, “Coach Keyes my cross country and baseball coach has really motivated me to be the best I can be.”

“The best motivation for me is just to see the guy in front of me, and to improve to be a little better every time I get on the starting line or on the baseball field.”

Asked what it means to represent both Elk City and Elk City High School, Luke stated, “It is very special to me, because I get to represent my town. And each time I go out there and try my best, I have a supportive community behind me.”

Besides Cross Country and Baseball, there are other activities at Elk City High School that Luke is involved with. Luke stated, “I am in both Key Club, and Future Farmers of America.”

After high school, Luke wants to pursue a trade, and has a goal in mind. Luke stated, “I want to work for my uncle in his heating and air conditioning businesses.”
