Coach: Sam Stephens
2020-21 Record: 3-17
The Elks are looking to bounce back from a rough season a year ago that saw them go 3-17. Head coach Sam Stephens, who is in his third season at the helm of the program, says that his squad has some experience coming back along with some new faces and he hopes to have a solid season. “We have a handful of players returning that played meaningful minutes last season,” he said. “We are really going to rely on those players to be leaders and playmakers for our team while having younger players stepping into big roles.” Kye Keyes is back to lead the team this season. He is an athletic player with good scoring ability that adds solid defensive and rebounding abilities. Someone that is looking to have a bigger impact on the season is Caden Dunlap. He is a very smart and skilled player that earned varsity minutes last season and now looks to step into a starting role with some big expectations. An all-around great teammate, Cooper Church enters this new season ready to make an impact. He is a terrific teammate taht outworks everyone, listens, and makes the simple play for the team night in and night out.
Other players to keep an eye on for Elk City are Cooper Patton, Vivek Pranabdev, Austin Jones, Blake Redd, Cooper Garbarino, Cy Barker, Alex Cupp, Jack Morgan, Cole Buie, Conner McCollum, Cam Mercer, Joseph Dailey, and Gerald Aragon.
GIRLS
Coach: Sean Hamm
20-21 Record: 5-14
Head coach Sean Hamm has a full roster coming into the new season. One player the Lady Elks are looking forward to seeing on the court is Delaja Martin (Sr.), a post player with tremendous potential to have a breakout season. “Martin is a player who is a team leader both in the weight room and on the court. Her athletic ability, leadership traits, and overall basketball IQ is what makes her a top-notch player in our program,” said coach Hamm. Abby Brown (Fr.) is an incoming freshman with a high ceiling. Her quickness and shooting ability will make her a threat on both ends of the court. Junior guard Alyssa Brott is another leader coach Hamm is excited to have this season. “Brott is dependable, competitive, and trustworthy. Those are just a few words to describe Alyssa,” said Hamm. Jada Kimball (Jr.) constantly puts in the effort and time to improve her game. She is considered the ultimate team player that celebrates everyone’s success, not just her own.
