Elk City junior Holden Dixon is following a tradition that his older brother, Karsen, began a few years ago. Dixon plays center for the Elks and proudly displays the number 59 on his jersey  -just like his older brother- who also played center and wore the same number for all of his high school career. For Dixon, football is a team sport and requires camaraderie, communication, and trust in one another.

“In my opinion a good player is someone who is willing to give their all when it gets tough,” Dixon said. “Never giving up or quitting on teammates.”

From a football perspective, Dixon looks up to Creed Humphry as a motivational figure. Humphrey played center for Shawnee High School, starred at OU, and was recently drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s the type of person that Dixon can admire because Humphrey’s success is evidence for local players that hard work, dedication, and determination allow opportunities for people to achieve their dreams and be successful.

Elk City coaches speak highly of Dixon and say that he is a great kid on and off the field and is always there to lend a helping hand. This season Dixon has a few goals in mind, but rather than focusing on individual accolades, Dixon has a team-first mentality.

“As a team I want to beat Clinton,” Dixon said. “Then win our district, make it to the semifinals, then win state.”

Outside of football Dixon is active in many clubs at Elk City High and has been on the track and field team for the past two seasons and is planning on playing golf this spring. Dixon also enjoys weight training and plans to begin powerlifting this year.

After high school Dixon wants to attend Oklahoma State and pursue a degree in Business Finance.
