Elk City High School senior Conley Poole has developed into a key contributor for the Elks, bringing versatility, discipline and a team-first mindset to the field.
Poole, who plays both cornerback and wide receiver, embraces the challenges that come with competing on both sides of the ball. He said one of the toughest aspects of his role is executing precise timing routes at receiver. “Running right to the spot where your quarterback is taught to throw it” requires trust, repetition and focus, he said.
That trust extends beyond the field and into the locker room, where Poole values the relationships, he has built with his teammates and coaches. “I love the coaching staff and my teammates for pushing me,” he said. “We work together every day and push each other.”
A senior this fall, Poole credits his parents as his biggest source of inspiration. Their constant encouragement has helped shape his work ethic and approach to athletics. “They push me to be the best I can be,” he said.
Poole’s favorite memory on the field reflects his ability to rise in key moments. Last season, he recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown while his team was trailing, giving Elk City the lead in a momentum-shifting play.
He has also witnessed unforgettable moments from the sidelines, including a play during his sophomore year when a receiver came down with a catch over three defenders.
Off the field, Poole enjoys spending time playing video games and working out. In the classroom, science stands out as his favorite subject, and he credits Coach Coop as a favorite teacher who has made an impact on his academic experience.
As he prepares for his final season, Poole leans on lessons learned through athletics. “Every day won’t be easy, but you have to keep grinding,” he said.
Before each game, he keeps his routine simple. Listening to music and staying calm helps him stay focused and ready to compete.
With his senior season ahead, Poole remains committed to giving his best effort and continuing to grow alongside his teammates.
