For Elk City High School senior Aubrie Pogue, the game of softball is more than just a sport; it’s a journey of resilience, leadership, and making history. Aubrie, a dedicated member of the Lady Elks softball team, will never forget her biggest accomplishment: helping lead her team to the state tournament for the first time in 20 years. It was a milestone not just for the program, but also for Aubrie, who has poured countless hours into the game she loves.

Softball has been one of her greatest teachers. “Softball has shown me how to handle setbacks,” Aubrie said. “Losing or making mistakes taught me not to give up, but to learn and come back stronger.” That mindset has shaped her into the kind of player and person who doesn’t shy away from challenges but uses them as fuel to improve.

Beyond the field, Aubrie has made her mark on Elk City as a member of both the National Honor Society and Student Council, showing the same dedication in the classroom and the community as she does in athletics. She’s grateful for the teachers and coaches who have guided her along the way, especially Coach Peffer. “I made him coffee every morning, and I know he misses me,” Aubrie laughed.

When it comes to representing Elk City, Aubrie takes her role seriously. “Being an athlete lets me be a role model for younger students who look up to our teams, and that motivates me to carry myself with character on and off the field,” she said.

The best advice she’s ever received, “Nobody cares, work harder”, remains her driving force, pushing her to excel no matter the circumstances.

Outside of school and sports, Aubrie enjoys enchiladas, dreams of vacationing in the Bahamas with Claire Edwards, and never forgets to thank the people who matter most. “Thank you to my family and all my coaches who have supported me through my softball career,” she said.

With her determination, character, and heart for the game, Aubrie Pogue has left a legacy at Elk City that will inspire Lady Elks for years to come.
