Elk City’s Jaxon McArthur – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Western Oklahoma Realty

The best advice given to Jaxon McArthur about baseball is to have fun. “Baseball is a game,” he says, “if you’re not having fun, then you don’t deserve to play.”

Jaxon is a junior at Elk City High School. He is a catcher for his team. “I love catching because I can communicate to the entire field and see everything that goes on at all times. My favorite part of baseball is getting to play with my team and rally with each other to win,” he says.

Baseball taught him to be patient. “Do not be fast to anger, no matter what the outcome is,” he says. This is a valuable lesson Jaxon can use in all aspects of his life.

Jaxon grew up playing baseball and says there is no other sport like it. The combination of physical and mental strength makes him passionate about the sport. He also likes knowing his teammates are always there to back him up.

Rylee Boyd was a senior catcher last year. Jaxon looks up to Rylee because he left a big impression as a teammate. “He was a great team leader and always set a good example for everyone, including me,” he said.

Playing for his school and representing as a student-athlete is a big part of his life. “I think my favorite part is knowing that I have a whole community behind me supporting me and the team no matter what,” says Jaxon.

When asked about his best memory of baseball, he recalls a game from regionals last year. “My favorite memory was my lead-off homerun in last year’s first pitch of regionals.”

Inspiration is close to home. He says his parents inspire him the most. “They have always taught me to do the right thing and to be a better person every day,” says Jaxon.

Jaxon has enjoyed baseball for as long as he can remember. His parents signed him up for T-ball when he was young and he has been playing ever since. He is thankful to those who have helped him as he grew into the sport. “I would like to thank all my coaches throughout the years and teammates,” he says.

During the off-season, Jaxon spends a lot of time hunting. “I love hunting with my boys, Cole Buie and Cooper Garbarino. I work for a guide service part-time in the winter.” He says he also enjoys spending summers on the lake with his family. “We go to different lakes over the summer and always have a good time on the boat.”

After high school, Jaxon wants to go to college and continue playing baseball. He wants to earn his degree in either ag business or architecture.
