OUTLOOK
The Elk City Elkettes aim to build on the momentum they gained last season, bouncing back from a challenging start to finish strong. “We started last year 1-8 before going 13-7 in the last 20 games. We finished with a record of 14-15 and made first round of area,” head coach Sean Hamm said. “We return four starters and will rely on a mixture of upper classmen and underclassmen to be successful. This season, coach Hamm will rely on a balanced mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen to drive the team’s success. The Elkettes will again look to standout senior Abby Brown (Sr. G) to lead the charge. “She led the team in scoring and rebounds a year ago as a junior. She has a competitive motor that never stops,” Hamm said. “She should become a member of the 1,000-point club this season.” Brown averaged 15 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game last season.
Campbell Garbarino (So. F), a sophomore, is expected to continue her impressive play after averaging 6.7 points and 3.4 rebounds as a freshman. “Campbell is a phenomenal athlete, who is also a track star. She was runner-up for WAC Newcomer of the Year and is already making an impact in multiple sports,” Hamm noted. Sophomore guard Luci O’Hara (So. G) brings versatility to the backcourt after contributing 5.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game last season. “Luci’s a two-sport standout, excelling in basketball, softball and track.” The Elkettes will also lean on Kaz Ulrich, a junior center who averaged 7.2 points and 5.2 rebounds. “Kaz (Jr. C) is one of the highest-character athletes I’ve ever coached,” Hamm said. “She always puts the team first and cheers just as hard for her teammates as she does for herself.”
Senior Ella Sottile (Sr. F) embodies the heart of the team with her hustle and adaptability. “Ella is our hardest worker and heartbeat of the team,” Hamm said. “She can play any position, 1-5, and is always in the right spot. She excels on the softball field (Committed to SNU to play softball) as well as the track team where she competes in the pole vault.”
The Elkettes will navigate a tough 2024-25 schedule, which will test their depth and resilience. With a mix of experienced leaders and emerging talent, the Elkettes are poised to take another step forward this season. Coach Hamm is confident that the team’s chemistry and relentless effort will pave the way for success.
