Elk City High School senior running back Jayden Wynn was never really interested in playing football.

“Until my starting quarterback now, Logan Webb, pretty much made me play in seventh grade, so he really motivated me to play football and is a big reason I play today” Wynn said. “He started trying when we were in fifth grade, telling me to do the tackle football league, but I never did, so seventh grade, and it being middle school, kind of made me want to play, and all my friends, the seniors that play now, were playing, which was another reason. Just to be out there with them meant a lot.”

Wynn started out playing left tackle and defensive tackle. But his sophomore summer, after the Elks made an appearance in the state semifinal game, he became faster, lost weight and moved to power back and linebacker, where he still plays.

“Overall, I just filled in the fat with muscle over the years,” Wynn said. “I was in the weight room with the team every day and went and trained at MAP in the spring of my sophomore year, which helped improve my agility and overall movement. I would say my genetics helped lose the fat, but I gained all the muscle by working for it every day.”

That same drive persists in Wynn now. He and his ECHS teammates are chasing the Gold Ball this fall.

“I will try in everything I do,” Wynn said. “I’m chasing to bond with my brothers for one more year and going and winning the chip.”

He also wants to receive an All-State nod and rush for over 1,000 yards. In the spring, he’ll wrap up his high school athletic career with the Elks baseball team and already has an idea of what he wants to do thereafter.

“I want to go into the wind turbine business and go to their school in Woodward,” Wynn said.
