Those accomplishments so far have been impressive. The Elkettes’ finished 31-5 last season, a season which ended in a tough first round loss at the Class 4A State Championships. And while the primary goal for Pogue and her teammates is to win a state championships, Aubrie has wisely kept her short-term goals simple and manageable, “I strive to be a leader and a team player who puts her teammates first. My goal is always to be better than the year before and from day to day. In the end, I just want to be an impactful team player.”
As a pitcher, Pogue is positioned to make an immediate impact on every game, and her impact is usually highly conducive to the success of her team. Even so, all great competitors demand more from themselves with each outing, so Aubrie devoted her offseason to elevating her game to the next level, “There’s always room to grow, so I’ve definitely worked on bringing my velocity back up. I also put in quite a bit of work on my riseball and change up.”
When asked about where her drive and her love of the game began, Pogue answered, “I really don’t know. I just started playing. I was pretty good at it, and I was very competitive, and it just stuck. I feel like there’s a different challenge every game.”
Aside from spending more time with her teammates, who have become like a family to her, Aubrie is looking forward to sharing her team’s success with an actual family member, “I’m really looking forward to playing with my sister. She’s a freshman this year, so this will be the first and last time to get to play with her.”
Outside of softball, Aubrie has many interests and is a member of Elk City’s Student Council. She also stars in the classroom, where she sports an impressive 4.0 G.P.A. She has been named a member of the prestigious National Honors Society.
After graduation, Aubrie plans to continue her academic and athletic career at the collegiate level.
