Madi Long watched her dad play golf growing up. She decided it was time to start playing the game herself as a high school freshman. Now a sophomore at Elk City High School, she is learning the game and representing her school. “It’s something I started playing last year and I love trying new things. It’s a sport I can play for a lifetime,” she says.
She loves the challenge of golf and playing it with others. Her favorite part of being a member of her team is the support they give one another. “It allows me to be more social and get out of my bubble. My favorite memory would be playing with my friends and family and have an amazing time,” Madi says.
Madi is relatively new to golf, but this does not lessen her excitement and skill for the game. She qualified and played in the state tournament her first year on the ECHS team. This she says is her favorite golf accomplishment so far.
Representing ECHS as a student-athlete makes Madi proud. Being part of her school’s strong tradition and support for the golf team is a fulfilling experience. She loves the time spent with her teammates. “I appreciate every single one of them and wouldn’t change it for the world,” she said.
“Never give up on a dream you worked so hard for,” is the best advice she has ever been given.
Madi’s favorite teacher was Mrs. Simon from the second grade. “She always made me feel welcomed to her classroom and helped me with anything I needed without a second thought.
“My parents inspire me the most because they have been there for me since day one and encourage me with any sport I choose. I want to say thank you to my parents and family for the support they have shown with anything I choose to do,” she says.
A hobby she particularly loves is cooking and baking. Madi can be found preparing all kinds of delicious foods. After high school, Madi plans to go to college to study forensic science and become a crime scene investigator.
