By all accounts, last season was a successful one for the Elk City Elks baseball team, making a trip to the Class 4A state tournament. But a first round extra-innings loss has head coach Jay McClure’s squad looking to make another run at the championship.
“We return seven starters from last year’s team,” McClure said. “We graduated a very talented group of seniors last year, but we have a lot of good young talent coming up. After the finish we had last season, our guys are hungry to get back on the field. We are excited about the group of guys we have coming back and look forward to another great season.”

One of those impact players coming back is Cole Buie. He is an electric athlete that has started in the outfield since his sophomore year. Last season, he hit .391 with twenty stolen bases. This year, McClure expects to use Buie on the mound more. He threw 27.1 innings with a 1.029 ERA last year.

Krew Keyes is a very talented sophomore. As a freshman he played in seven games and hit .400 in 12 plate appearances. On the mound, he had 3 appearances going 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA. Krew is a smart young player and is not scared of the moment.

Cameron Carlile is a newer face to the Elks, moving in last season, but he will look to be a contributor. He is very athletic and able to play multiple positions, which will be an asset for McClure.

A member of the team that is not afraid to work hard is Wyatt McConnell. Wyatt is always willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. He is one of those guys that you have to find a spot on the field for because you know he will make plays.

Bryce Mouse is a tremendous talent on the field and a young man of high character. Off the field, he is a 4.0 student and a member of the National Honor Society and the President of the Elk City Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
