Through softball, Jera Moler discovered an environment of encouragement where teammates always have one another’s back. Representing Elk City High School is an opportunity to share her love of the game with young girls looking to join the program in the future.
Now a senior, Jera says softball has taught her more than people realize. “It has tested my mental and physical strength, and it has given me opportunities that I could have never imagined. Softball has taught me how to react to situations that don’t always go my way. I’ve learned to adjust quickly and move on with my head held high,” she says.
Softball is a huge part of Jera’s life. “It has given me some amazing people, unforgettable memories, and valuable experiences along the way. My favorite memory is when we hosted and won regionals for the first time in fastpitch at Elk City,” she said.
It was Jera’s sophomore year going into the second day of regionals when her coach gave advice that has stuck with her. “Coach Murray told us to never be afraid because the phrase ‘Do not be afraid’ is stated 365 times in the Bible,” Jera said.
“Abbie Keele has left the biggest impact on me as a teammate. She has shown me what a true leader looks like on and off the field. She is always positive, encouraging, and supportive, and she always makes sure everyone is okay.
“Ms. Shelton from junior year is my favorite teacher. She has always been so supportive, caring, and understanding, always seeing the good in everything. My older brother, Teagon, inspires me. He has set great examples for me to follow. I have already learned so much from him,” said Jera.
Oklahoma City Spark and former OU softball player Jayda Coleman is an athlete Jera looks up to. “She always creates her own energy and shows that you can have fun while working hard. Jayda is strong in her faith, and she shows it on the field,” Jera said.
Jera thanks the many people who have supported her. “I want to thank my parents for the continuous love and support they show me. I also want to thank my coaches, Kaleb Murray, Dillon Ball, Landon Sanders, and Brandon Bender for always pushing me to be my best and for always believing in me. Lastly, I want to thank Dillon Sottile for being a huge help to me during my recruiting process. I would not be the person or player I am without these people!” she exclaimed.
