Parents have a lot of responsibilities when it comes to their children. More than just raising
them and making sure they have a roof, food, and are safe, they also have to make sure that
they get a good education and become good citizens. Amy Geraughty says that she wants
her kids to know that she is in their corner with whatever they are doing.
“I think it is very important to prioritize my kids’ activities because it is very important to
me that my kids know that I love them and support them in everything that they do,” she
said. “When they are playing a sport or doing a different activity, I want them to know that
there is always someone there cheering them on in the stands or out in the audience. I
know when I was a kid, I always played harder and better when I knew my parents were in
the stands watching me.”
Amy, who is a 2004 graduate of Elk City High School, has three kids that now attend Elk
City. Chloe is in her senior year. She is a cheerleader, plays STUNT, is in band, choir, the
National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Key Club, on the drum
line, on the Senior Class Committee, and plans to be in the school musical. Sixth-grader
Abigail is on the Academic team, in Gifted & Talented, Honor Choir, and plays percussion in
the school band. Hope is in the first grade. She loves cheer and hopes to be a cheerleader
and in percussion like her big sisters one day.
As a 2004 graduate of Elk City, Geraughty is proud to have her kids be a part of the school
and community.
“One thing I love about our community is how much they show their support for our kids,”
she said. “I’m constantly having people ask me about my girls and how they are doing in
their different activities. They are always so encouraging and supportive of my girls. We
never lack in businesses willing to donate and help out when it comes to the kids as well.
It’s been amazing to see how supportive they can be of all the different activities, whether it
is cheer, band, football, or another sport or activity. This community never ceases to amaze
me.”
